Lilith Project

How Lilith book was born

This was a very sweet and fun project. Back when I was still working at a local print shop, an owner of the local soap company stopped by. They're one of the loyal customers and we knew them well. They usually order soap labels, but on this visit, they brought in their daughter's original drawings and said they wanted to make a book with them. Words (based on the true story in their lives) were provided from their relative (so, it truly is a family project).

And the process began; I scanned all the artwork (there were quite a few), put all the pictures in order, and add the text according to the story.

For the base layout, I decided to add feather to all the image (make the boundaries blur) to cover up uneven sizes and orientations of the images. Some weren't quite rectangle, either.

For the typeface for the body text, I picked Architects Daughter, which has natural hand-written feel and also gives out such cute and friendly look. I thought that fit the sweetness of the story and the illustration style.

And for the cover, Lilith (the main character piggy)'s face took up most of the artwork, so it was a little tricky to find the space for the title and names of the author and illustrator, but managed to add the title running along with Lilith's face line (all the colours used were taken from her artwork).

Another cute idea for this book was to add Lilith's hoof prints in the inside cover, as if she's running through the cover :) The clients provided her hoof image and I placed them to run across the inside cover. They were pleased how it turned out.

I can't spoil the story by sharing too much details, but I think it's okay to say that Lilith lives with this lovely soap maker family even today! I follow them on socials and so can you if you'd like.

You can purchase the book on their website, and be sure to check their soap collections as well. They look and smell lovely, and clean really well.
