My path up to this point has been a winding one. I studied comparative culture (BA) and women's literature (MA, both at University of Tokyo). I taught English in Japan (at various settings), and, after moving to Canada, I was given the opportunities to teach Japanese as well. When my youngest was 2, however, I decided to study graphic design and worked as a graphic designer. Here is my portfolio, if anyone is interested :)
Life took me from a small city in Japan to Tokyo, then Toronto, Guelph, ON and Anne's Island, PEI, Canada. When I came to another life's "bend in the road" recently, I was a little confused with how my career looked inconsistent.
An inspiration sparkled from the book Your Story Matters. Everyone has a very unique story (or stories) to tell. Then, I remembered people came to the print shop, wanting to self-publish and I helped them with each process. I realized that this is where literature/culture and graphic design meet! ....and that's how The Book Doula came into being. It can be a fiction, autobiography, or family history. The genre is almost limitless. You don't have to be approved by a publisher; you don't have to make a profit (although you could!). If you've been feeling the nudge to write and publishing a book is on your bucket list, let's start now! I am here to support you as you give birth to your unique story...
